About Taxr
What is Taxr?
Taxr is an AI-powered receipt scanner and expense tracker designed for Australian freelancers, sole traders, gig workers, and small business owners. It helps you digitise paper receipts, automatically categorise expenses into ATO-aligned tax categories, and export clean reports for your accountant or tax return.
How does Taxr work?
Simply point your phone camera at a receipt and Taxr does the rest. The app uses AI to extract key details -- the date, vendor name, total amount, tax amounts, vendor tax ID, and category -- then automatically categorises the expense. All your receipts are stored securely in the cloud, and you can export them as Excel and PDF whenever you need to.
Is Taxr free?
Taxr offers a free tier that lets you scan and store receipts with 10 free scans. For unlimited scans, advanced export options, and other Pro features, there are affordable subscription plans available. You can see current pricing in the app.
What platforms does Taxr support?
Taxr is available for iPhone on the App Store and for Android on Google Play.
Is my data secure with Taxr?
Yes. Your data is encrypted both in transit and at rest. Receipt images and expense data are stored securely in the cloud, and we never sell or share your personal information. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
Receipt Scanning
How accurate is AI receipt scanning?
Taxr's AI is highly accurate for standard printed receipts, correctly extracting totals, dates, vendor names, tax amounts, and vendor tax IDs in the vast majority of cases. Accuracy can vary with handwritten receipts, very faded thermal paper, or heavily crumpled documents -- but you can always review and edit any extracted details before saving.
What types of receipts can Taxr scan?
Taxr can scan virtually any paper receipt -- retail purchases, fuel receipts, restaurant bills, parking tickets, toll receipts, and more. It works best with clearly printed receipts but can also handle most invoices and statements.
Can Taxr scan PDF invoices?
Yes. Taxr supports scanning receipts and invoices via your camera, photo gallery, and PDF file upload. You can upload a PDF invoice directly and Taxr will extract all the key details automatically.
What happens if the AI misreads a receipt?
You're always in control. After scanning, Taxr shows you the extracted details for review. If anything looks off, you can tap on any field to correct it before saving. The AI learns and improves over time. The final say is always yours.
Tax & Deductions
What tax deductions can Taxr help me track?
Taxr helps you track all the common work-related deductions that Australian freelancers and sole traders claim -- including vehicle and travel expenses, home office costs, tools and equipment, professional development, phone and internet, clothing and uniforms, and more. Expenses are automatically sorted into ATO-aligned categories.
Does Taxr support GST tracking for BAS?
Yes. When Taxr scans a receipt that includes GST, it automatically extracts the GST amount and the supplier's ABN. This makes it much easier to prepare your Business Activity Statement (BAS) or hand the information over to your accountant at BAS time.
Does Taxr work for other countries and tax systems?
Yes. Taxr supports 195+ countries and automatically handles a wide range of tax systems including GST, VAT, IVA, IGV, ICMS, JCT, Sales Tax, and more. Whether you're dealing with UK VAT, US Sales Tax, Japanese JCT, Brazilian ICMS, or Australian GST, Taxr will extract the relevant tax details from your receipts.
Do I still need an accountant if I use Taxr?
Taxr makes expense tracking and receipt management dramatically easier, but it's not a replacement for professional tax advice. For straightforward tax returns, you may find that Taxr gives you everything you need to lodge your own return via myTax. For more complex situations -- especially if you're GST-registered or have multiple income streams -- a registered tax agent is still a good idea. The great news is that Taxr makes your accountant's job faster and cheaper by giving them a clean, categorised expense export.
Exports & Accountants
How do I export my expenses?
You can export your expenses directly from the Taxr app. Simply select the date range you want, choose your export format, and Taxr sends the export to your email.
Can I share my expenses with my accountant?
Absolutely. Taxr is designed to make working with your accountant seamless. You can export a clean, categorised summary of your expenses and send it directly to your tax agent. Many accountants appreciate receiving organised digital records instead of a shoebox full of paper receipts.
What export formats does Taxr support?
Taxr supports Excel and PDF exports. Excel exports are compatible with virtually every accounting and spreadsheet application including Google Sheets, Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks.
Account & Billing
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your Taxr subscription at any time through your device's subscription settings. On iPhone, go to Settings > Your Name > Subscriptions, find Taxr, and tap Cancel Subscription. On Android, open Google Play Store > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions, find Taxr, and tap Cancel. Your Pro features will remain active until the end of your current billing period.
Can I use Taxr on multiple devices?
Yes. Your data is stored in the cloud, so you can access it from any device by signing in with the same account.
