- Taxr vs Everlance: Receipt Scanner or Mileage Tracker?
Taxr vs Everlance comes down to which record you need: Everlance is built for people whose biggest write-off is driving, and Taxr is built for people whose write-offs are on receipts. Everlance's paid plans cost US$89.99 or US$119.99 a year, and its free plan covers 30 automatically tracked trips a month, while Taxr is free to start and Taxr Pro costs US$29.99 a year on the App Store (US$31.99 on Google Play).
Neither app does the other's job. Everlance logs your drives with your phone's GPS, and its own help center says it does not scan receipts. Taxr reads your receipts into categorized expense records, and it has no mileage tracking. Here's how to pick, and when to run both.

What Is Everlance?
Everlance, now a Motus company, is a mileage and expense tracking app for self-employed people, and for companies that reimburse employees who drive. Its home page calls it "the mileage tracking app to automate your logs" and says it is "trusted by over 4 million drivers and solopreneurs."
The core feature is automatic trip detection. The app uses your phone's GPS to record each drive, you swipe to mark the trip as work or personal, and Everlance builds a mileage log that it describes as IRS-compliant. There are three plans for individuals, and the paid ones come with a 7-day free trial:
- Basic (free): 30 automatically tracked trips a month, unlimited manually tracked trips, receipt photo uploads, manual expense entry and CSV exports.
- Starter (US$89.99 a year or US$10.99 a month): unlimited automatic trip tracking, work-hours rules that classify trips for you, and Excel and PDF exports.
- Professional (US$119.99 a year or US$19.99 a month): everything in Starter, plus a card or bank link that brings your expenses in automatically, a deduction finder that reviews those transactions (listed as iOS only on the pricing page), federal and state tax filing through Everlance's partnership with TaxSlayer, and US$1 million audit defense.
Everlance stores receipt photos, but it doesn't read them. You enter the expense yourself, or on the Professional plan it arrives from your linked card, and you attach the photo to it.
Everlance is well rated: 4.8 on the US App Store from more than 52,000 ratings when we checked on October 2, 2026. It also sells a business product for reimbursing employees' mileage, which this page doesn't cover.
What Is Taxr?
Taxr is an AI receipt scanner. Photograph a paper receipt, pick a photo from your gallery or import a PDF invoice, and in about 5 seconds the AI reads the vendor, date, total and tax. It then suggests a tax-aligned category (Schedule C categories for US filers) for you to confirm before the record saves. The receipt image is stored with the record, and you can export your expenses to Excel or PDF for any date range.
Taxr is localized for 195+ countries, with the currency, tax label (sales tax, GST, VAT and more) and category set of the country you choose when you sign up. It doesn't track mileage, connect to your bank or file your taxes. It does the receipt half of your records.

Where Everlance Is the Better Choice
Be straight about fit. Everlance wins if:
- You drive for work. For rideshare and delivery drivers, real estate agents and anyone who visits clients, vehicle costs are often one of the largest deductions. The IRS standard mileage rate for 2026 is 72.5 cents a mile from January through June and 76 cents a mile from July 1, so 10,000 business miles are worth more than US$7,000 in deductions. Claiming them takes a log of the date, miles and business purpose of each trip, as our guide to the 2026 IRS mileage rate explains. Taxr can't produce that log. Everlance builds it while you drive.
- You want card and bank transactions pulled in for you. On the Professional plan, Everlance links your accounts through Plaid and brings transactions in for you to mark as work or personal. Taxr has no bank connection and only knows the receipts you scan.
- You want to file from the same app. Professional includes federal and state filing through TaxSlayer. Taxr stops at the export.
- Someone reimburses your mileage, or you want a web dashboard. Everlance has both a reimbursement product and a dashboard for your computer. Taxr is a phone and tablet app.
Where Taxr Is the Better Choice
- Your deductions are on receipts, not the odometer. Designers, developers, consultants and online sellers often drive very little and buy a lot: software, supplies, equipment. Taxr reads each receipt for you. With Everlance you type each expense in, or pay for Professional so it comes in from your card, and then attach the photo.
- Price. Taxr Pro is US$29.99 a year, about a third of the price of Everlance Starter and about a quarter of the price of Professional. If you don't need a mileage log, bank sync or in-app filing, you'd be paying for features you won't use.
- The detail a card line leaves out. The IRS says the supporting documents for an expense should identify the payee, the amount paid and the date, and describe what was bought. A synced card transaction shows the first three. The description is on the receipt, and Taxr keeps the receipt image and the data read from it together for every expense, cash purchases included. See what receipts the IRS requires.
- Outside the US. Everlance's help center says its default settings are for the US and that it can only display the dollar sign, so UK users are told to treat dollars as pounds. Taxr is localized for 195+ countries, with the right currency and tax label for each.
- Working with an accountant. Taxr's exports are built to hand over: a summary by category and a line for every receipt.
Plenty of people who drive for work need both records. The standard mileage rate is meant to cover gas, insurance and repairs, but parking fees and tolls are deductible on top of it, and under the actual expense method every fuel, repair and insurance bill counts. Our deduction guide for rideshare and delivery drivers lists what else to keep.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Everlance scan receipts?
No. Everlance's help center says the app "does not scan receipts or automatically import information from them into your transactions." You can photograph a receipt and attach it to an expense that you entered by hand or, on the Professional plan, that synced from your card. Taxr works the other way around: the photo comes first, and the AI fills in the vendor, date, total and tax.
Is Everlance free?
Partly. The Basic plan is free and includes 30 automatically tracked trips a month, unlimited manual trips, receipt photo uploads and CSV exports. Unlimited automatic tracking needs Starter, at US$89.99 a year or US$10.99 a month. Bank sync and tax filing need Professional, at US$119.99 a year or US$19.99 a month.
Does Everlance file your taxes?
Not by itself. Everlance's help center says it "doesn't automatically file your taxes for you," but Professional subscribers can file federal and state returns from the app through its partnership with TaxSlayer. Taxr doesn't file either: it gives you Excel or PDF records for your tax software or tax pro.
Does Taxr track mileage?
No. Taxr has no mileage tracking and no GPS trip log. It records the vehicle costs that come with a receipt, such as parking, tolls, fuel and repairs, and suggests a Schedule C category for each one. Keep your mileage log in a dedicated tracker such as Everlance and use Taxr for the receipts.
Can I use Taxr and Everlance together?
Yes, and for people who drive for work it's a sensible pairing. Everlance keeps the mileage log, and Taxr keeps the receipts for everything else, from parking and tolls to phone bills and supplies. Everlance Starter plus Taxr Pro comes to about US$120 a year.
The Bottom Line
Everlance is a mileage tracker first, with expense sync and tax filing on its top plan, and it's a good one. Taxr is a receipt scanner that reads each receipt for you, from US$29.99 a year, in 195+ countries. Choose by the record you're missing: miles, receipts or both.
